Duplex Steel a type of stainless steel has a microstructure that is composed of Austenite and Ferrite phases. Since Duplex Steel has around 50% of each phase Austenite and Ferrite each of which has distinct atomic structures and physical characteristics, it can benefit from the features of both types of materials. Although the mixture is supposed to be 50:50, in reality, the ferrite percentage might range from 35 to 55% while still achieving desirable qualities. Within a ferrite matrix, the microstructure appears as austenite grains or islands.
