A nickel-copper alloy with exceptional corrosion resistance in a range of environments is called Monel 400. Strong weldability, moderate to high strength, and good general corrosion resistance are all characteristics of Monel 400. It provides corrosion resistance in a wide variety of chemical and marine conditions. Mineral acids, salts, and alkalis don’t oxidize Monel Alloy 400.
When exposed to reducing media, this alloy is more resistant to nickel than copper, while when exposed to oxidizing media, it is more resistant to nickel than copper. Good mechanical characteristics from below-freezing temperatures to roughly 480C. On the other hand, aeration will cause higher rates of corrosion. It is possible to resist neutral, alkaline, and acid salts, however oxidizing acid salts like ferric chloride exhibit poor resistance. Outstanding resistance to chloride ion stress corrosion cracking. At normal temperatures, the alloy has a very faint magnetic field. Chemical, oil, and maritime industries all frequently employ Nickel Alloy 400.
