A chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steel with molybdenum, SS 316 is available. Better overall corrosion resistance is provided by molybdenum in 316. Due to Grade 316L's superior resistance to sensitization (grain boundary carbide precipitation), the low-carbon version of Grade 316L, is often employed in heavy gauge welded components. Due to its increased carbon content, stainless steel grade 316H is a version of grade 316 that is better suited for usage in situations where high temperatures are available. Similar properties can be found in Balanced Grade 316Ti. Corrosion resistance is preferable in Types 316 and 316L Stainless steel compared to Type 304.
They offer excellent resistance to pitting and extremely good resistance to the majority of the chemicals used in the textile, paper, and photography industries. The machinery used to process food, hardware for laboratories. Architectural paneling, railings, and trim are made of grade SS316/316L/316H.
