Known as Duplex S31803, this grade consists of ferritic-austenitic microstructures. It is estimated that a maximum of 40% to 50% of the alloy contains ferrite in its annealed state. The duplex microstructure maintains the austenitic grades' corrosion resistance while having the high strength of the ferritic grades. Its usual temperature range is -58° to 572° F (-50° to 300° C); outside of this range, its performance attributes deteriorate. The Duplex steel standard UNS S31803 is also known as the Duplex stainless steel standard.
This type of duplex steel is the most popular due to its affordability and ability to interchange its requirements with austenitic steel. Chemical industries, maritime tools and equipment, water desalination facilities, food manufacturing, paper and pulp production, as well as numerous other applications use Duplex S31803 Materials.
