Stainless Steel 321 Flanges are from the austenitic

The metal maintains its
strength even when exposed to cryogenic temperatures. Titanium in the mix helps the
alloy to be stabilized and gain better resistance to intergranular corrosion. It is also
preferred over SS 304 due to its greater resistance to creep and rupture.
Stainless Steel 321H and 321 Flanges have some
differences and similarities, which is due to the difference in the carbon content
between the two. SS 321H has more carbon in the chemical mixup, which helps it to gain
more strength and can be used in elevated temperature ranges. Though SS 321H's toughness
can't be increased by heat treatment techniques, it can be welded and formed easily.
When type 321 cannot withstand high temperatures, generally
exceeding 1000° F, grade 321H is utilized. Some of the major applications of Stainless
Steel 321H flanges are in chemical processing equipment, aircraft exhaust stacks, food
processing, and weld equipment. The creep resistance of SS 321H is greater than SS 321
and has acid corrosion resistance in many environments, except those involving chlorine
or sulfuric acid.
