Duplex Steel & Alloys offers both 317 stainless steel pipe, as well as dual grade 317/317L based on ASTM A312 or EN10216-5 requirements. 317L stainless steel pipe is a low carbon high-grade stainless steel pipe with strong corrosion resistance and machine work performance.
It is also known as UNS S31703 and Grade 317L SS pipe. In comparison to 317L, 317 stainless steel has a larger carbon content, which implies it is more heat resistant.
317/317L
Stainless Steel Tubes Advantages:
1. When compared to 316L stainless
steel pipe, the chromium, nickel, and molybdenum concentrations of
317L stainless steel pipe are raised by 2%, 1%, and 1%, respectively. The threes are the
primary factors that influence the performance of stainless steel pipes. 317L stainless
steel performs better than 304L and 316L stainless steel in terms of Pitting corrosion
resistance.
2. 317L stainless steel has the same corrosion resistance as 316L stainless steel.
Because of the high molybdenum concentration, it is more resistant to overall and local
corrosion in most media, including sulfuric acid, acid chloride, and phosphoric acid.
317L stainless steel is corrosive in strong oxidising acids such as nitric acid.
3. The performance of 317L stainless steel is nearly identical to that of 317 stainless
steel. Because of the decreased carbon content, 317L ss pipe has higher welding
performance and intergranular corrosion resistance at high temperatures (427816 °C) than
317 SS pipe.
4. The change in its chemistry gives grade SS 317/317L more resistance to corrosive
sulphur compounds, halogenic chemicals such as chlorides and bromides, and so on.
Because grade 317 is an austenitic alloy, its chemistry may be adjusted by simply
reducing carbon to improve the weldability of the SS 317/317L.
Application:
Flue gas desulfurization systems, chemical and petrochemical processing, food and
beverage industries, petroleum refining, condensers for generator equipment, and the
paper industry are all popular applications for 317 and 317L stainless steel pipes.
